Disclaimer: I do not own Zoycite or any other character in Sailor Moon.
This story is from my own imagination and is my own work. However, I
would like to own Malachite...or Prince Diamond...(life's so unfair!)
======================================================================
Last time: Malachite and Zoycite appear before Queen Beryl to explain
what they were doing on Earth. After thinking up two good excuses and
praying Beryl accepts them (which she does) the two go to the Dark
Kingdom Library to find a book on their past. Zoycite and Malchite
decide to split up, so they can accomplish more. Zoycite finds a book
entitled "The Dark Kingdom." At first it doesn't look like it will
help them, so Zoycite begins to put it back. Then she drops the book
on her foot. The book falls open to a picture of two people, who have
an uncanny resemblance to both Zoycite and Malachite...
======================================================================
"What is it?" asked Malachite as he went over to where Zoycite
was standing. "You look as if you've seen a ghost."
"I...I think I have." stammered Zoycite. "I found this old book
called 'The Diamond Kingdom.' Have you heard of it?"
"The book or the place?"
"Either one."
"I can't say that I ha-- Wait a second. The name Diamond Kingdom
sounds vaguely familiar. Hmmm...I know why the name sounds familiar!
I had read a book on it because many magical spells come from that
Kingdom. If my memory serves me correctly, the Dark Kingdom took over
the Diamond Kingdom." explained Malachite. "Why do you ask?"
"Because I found this." Zoycite replied as she handed Malachite
the extremely heavy book. "Look at this picture."
"Yes? So? It's a picture of the King and Queen of the Diamond
Kingdom. I don't see why you're making such a --" Malachite began, but
was interrupted by Zoycite.
"Look at the caption."
"Fine." replied Malachite, who was beginning to get a little
peeved at Zoycite. "The caption is, quote: 'This is a picture of King
Malachite and Queen Zoy--"
Malachite stopped mid-sentence. He couldn't believe what he
was reading.
"Zoycite. Queen Zoycite." finished Zoycite. "Now do you see
why I called you over here."
"Yes. I can't believe it! This is us over 1000 years ago! We
were the rulers of an ancient kingdom!"
"I know. Scary isn't it?"
"Oh, I don't know. The names have a nice ring to them. King
Malachite...Queen Zoycite. Don't you think?" Malachite asked Zoycite.
Zoycite mumbled an answer and went back to flipping through
the book. She scaned the words and pictures, looking for anything or
anyone that looked familiar.
"I'm confused." began Malachite. "If we were rulers of an
ancient kingdom, where do Jadeite and Nephrite fit in?"
Malachite looked to Zoycite for an answer, but didn't recieve
one for a few minutes. Zoycite continued to flip through the book
until she came across another picture. She then responded to
Malachite's question with a facial reaction.
"What is it?" asked Malachite.
"Well, I've just had my second shock in the space of fifteen
minutes." answered Zoycite. "I've found out how Jadeite and Nephrite
fit in to this whole puzzle. Take a look at this picture."
Zoycite handed the book over to Malachite. He took a quick
glance at the book, then looked back at Zoycite.
"Is this what I think it is?"
Zoycite could only nod in reply.
"You've got to be kidding me." Malachite said as he closed
his eyes and began to massage his temples.
"I wish I was, but I'm not."
"Read me the caption. I can't look at it."
"Quote: 'The sons of their Majesties Malachite and Zoycite,
Prince Jadeite and Prince Nephrite.' It's all there in black and
white." replied Zoycite as she set the book down and went over to
Malachite to comfort him.
"I just can't believe it. My son is Nephrite, whom I despise."
said Malachite.
"I know, I know. And our son Jadeite is dead." Zoycite
reminded Malachite.
"No, he's not dead. Beryl just has him in eternal sleep. There
may be a way to get him out..." Malachite trailed off.
"Well, now we know about our past. Some aspects of it aren't
the greatest, but what can you do?" Zoycite said, trying to make light
of the situation.
"Yes, but the biggest question is what are we doing here?"
Malachite said thoughtfully.
"I know what you mean." answered Zoycite. "If we were the
rulers of the Diamond Kingdom, then why aren't we still ruling it?"
"I don't know. Maybe the book that has told us so much about
our past," Malachite said sarcastically, "will hold the answer."
"I will ignore your sarcastic remark." Zoycite said, trying to
keep from laughing. "But, if you don't mind, I'm going to take the
book back to the barracks to read."
"Knock yourself out." answered Malachite. "Just let me read
it when you're done."
"Sure thing Malachite. See you later, my love." Zoycite said
as she gave Malachite a quick kiss.
Then, Zoycite left the Dark Kingdom Library in a cloud of
cherry blossom petals. Malachite was about to leave as well when he
saw Zoycite reappear in front of him. However, she didn't look like
her normal self. Her hair was a mess and she was clutching the book
to her chest.
"Malachite!" Zoycite cried out.
"Zoey! What happened?" asked Malachite as he ran over to
comfort Zoycite.
"I don't know." began Zoycite. "I returned to my quarters,
which are in the barracks, since I am still in training. Anyways, I
arrived back there, and about ten youma attacked me, all trying to
get my book. They acted as if they'd never seen one."
"Oh, Zoey, I 'm so sorry. I forgot you still lived in the
barracks." said Malachite as he conjured a brush and began to work
on Zoycite's hair. "But you're right. Very few youma have ever seen
a book. The library is reserved for the generals and a select group
of youma."
"It's alright Malachite, it's not your fault."
Malachite finished brushing out Zoycite's hair and she
replaced the ribbon that had fallen out.
"Thanks for fixing my hair." Zoycite said, inspecting her
appearance in a mirror she had just conjured.
~Malachite: Hmmm. Maybe I could invite Zoycite over to my
place to spend the night. It would give me more time to spend with
her.~
"You're welcome." Malachite answered, thinking how to invite
Zoycite over to his quarters without seeming too forward. He decided
to ask her flat out.
"Zoycite, would you like to spend the night at my place?"
Malachite asked hopefully. "I mean, it would give us a chance to
spend some time together and we could look through the book too."
~Zoycite: Yes! He actually asked me over to his quarters.
When I respond, I can't be too eager, or else Malachite may think
I've been waiting for him to ask me over.~
"Sure!" exclaimed Zoycite.
~Zoycite: I think that sounded too eager.~
"Then let's go." Malachite said extending his arm to Zoycite.
She took it, and the two dissapeared in a mixture of cherry blossom
petals and purple energy rays.
* * *
Zoycite and Malachite appeared at Malachite's place. Actually,
a castle would better describe his quarters. Like most buildings in the
Dark Kingdom, all the furnishings were in the typical black, grey, and
green. Zoycite looked around for some spot of color, but could find
none.
~Zoycite: I hate how drab everything is here in the NegaVerse.
I miss seing color.~
All of the sudden, Zoycite realised she was standing alone.
"Malachite?" Zoycite called out tenatively.
~Zoycite: Where could he have gone? We arrived together, and
then he just vanished into thin air!~
As if on cue, Malachite returned to Zoycite's side. In one hand
he carried a vase of red roses.
"I absolutely hate how drab this place is. I keep the roses
around to brighten up the place. However, I have to hide them when I'm
not here. Queen Beryl severely punishes those who try do add color to
the Dark Kingdom." explained Malachite. "And if she ever found out..."
"Don't worry, my love. I won't tell Beryl anything." replied
Zoycite as she gave Malachite a quick kiss. "It will be one of out many
secrets."
Malachite smiled in response and pulled Zoycite closer in a
tight embrace. They stared lovingly into each other's eyes until they
kissed again.
"Amazing. Beryl didn't call us during that kiss." observed
Zoycite once they had pulled apart.
Malachite chuckled in response. Zoycite moved away from
Malachite and to the table half way across the room where the Diamond
Kingdom book was located.
"I probably should look through this book." Zoycite said
reluctantly.
"Yes, and I have some work to do. I'm going to look through some
of my magic books to see if there is a way to counteract Beryl's eternal
sleep. Let me know if you find anything." Malachite told Zoycite as he
walked over to the stairs leading up to the second floor.
However, instead of walking up them, he casually floated up the
stairs and down the hall towards his room. Zoycite followed Malachite
with her eyes. Once she couldn't see him anymore, Zoycite turned her
attention back to the book.
"Well, I've found information on Malachite, Nephrite, Jadeite,
and myself. I'm not too concerned about the youma, since they aren't
very powerful. That leaves Beryl. There has to be something in here on
her." Zoycite said to herself as she leafed through the old book.
She mostly looked through the pictures, but scanned some of the
words as well. Like most books in the Dark Kingdom Library, the entire
book was written in Latin. It took a while for Zoycite to remember all
her Latin training, but she managed.
Zoycite was about half way through the book when she found
another interesting picture. This picture was of a woman with flaming
red hair and yellow eyes. Eyes Zoycite knew all too well.
"Well, now I know my suspision was right. Beryl was with us in
the Diamond Kingdom. I hope she was a wash woman." Zoycite said with a
laugh.
Zoycite read the caption and almost dropped the book for the
third time that day.
"Malachite!" Zoycite called out. "I found something you might
be interested in looking at!"
"What did you find?" Malachite asked from his room.
"I can't explain it." answered Zoycite. "You have to come here."
"I'm coming, I'm coming."
A few seconds later, Malachite appeared next to Zoycite. After
he gave Zoycite a quick kiss on the cheek, he spoke.
"What is it?"
"I found another...um...interesting picture."
"Let me see."
Zoycite handed the book to Malachite and gave the picture a
glance.
"It's Queen Beryl. Please tell me that she's not our daughter."
said Malachite with a pleading expression on his face.
"No, she's not our daughter, but she is related to us." replied
Zoycite.
Malachite's eyes grew as wide as saucers. "How?" he asked very
tenitavely.
"Queen Beryl is your sister."
Malachite promptly fainted.
* * *
"Malachite, are you alright?" Zoycite asked once Malachite had
recovered from his shock.
"'Am I alright' you ask?" Malachite said, getting more and more
upset with every word. "You tell me that Queen Beryl, bitch of the Dark
Kingdom is my sister, and you ask if I'm alright? Well, I'm not! And I
never will be!!"
"I'm so--" began Zoycite, but was unable to finish her sentance.
At least to Malachite's face. Malachite had teleported up to his room,
slammed and locked his door.
Zoycite decided to finish her sentance, just in case Malachite
was listening.
"--sorry. I'd be upset too."
Zoycite walked over to where the book lay open to the picture
of Queen Beryl. Zoycite took one last look at it, then closed the book.
~Zoycite: Who would have thought that one little book...well,
one three-inch book...would have caused so much trouble. Malachite did
ask me to stay here tonight, but it doesn't seem like he'll be talking
with me any time soon. Maybe I should go back to the barracks...But I'm
too tired to go anywhere. I don't think Malachite would mind if I
crashed on his sofa tonight.~
Zoycite bearly had the strength to remove her boots and jacket
(she always wore a green shirt underneath it), and conjure a blanket.
As soon as she colapsed on the sofa, she was asleep.
* * *
Malachite emerged from his room a few hours later. He went back
downstairs to apologize to Zoycite for his behavior. He didn't want her
mad at him, especially when their relationship was just begining.
However, Malachite saw Zoycite sleeping on his couch. He couldn't help
but smile at how beautiful she looked.
He carefully picked Zoycite up and teleported her back to his
room. Malachite gently laid her in his bed and covered her with the
royal blue blanket. Being careful not to disturb her sleep. Malachite
gently kissed Zoycite. Before he left, Malachite conjured a red rose,
which he placed on the pillow beside her hed. Then, Malachite quietly
left his room and returned to the couch, which is where he spent the
night.
* * *
Zoycite awoke staring at a red rose. Her first thought was
where was she? Zoycite sat up and realised she was in a bed and not
on a couch. She looked around for Malachite, but he was no where to
be found.
Zoycite teleported back downstairs and found Malachite asleep
on the couch. She couldn't help but smile.
~Zoycite: It's amazing. He's the strongest and most feared of
all the generals, yet he looks so vulnerable in his sleep. Well, I
guess it's up to me to fix breakfast.~
After wandering around for five minutes, Zoycite finally found
the kitchen. In the refrigerator, she found eggs and bacon, but had to
conjure a frying pan to cook everything in. While she cooked, Zoycite
began to hum "We Kiss in a Shadow" from Rodgers & Hammerstien's "The
King and I". Breakfast was almost done when Malachite stumbled into
the kitchen.
"Mmmmm. What smells so good?" asked Malachite.
"Bacon and eggs." replied Zoycite. "Now sit down. Breakfast
will be ready in a minute."
For once, Malachite obeyed the orders given to him. He sat
down at one end of the table and waited patiently for Zoycite to
finish cooking.
"What was that song you were humming when you came in?"
asked Malachite as Zoycite sat his plate down in front of him.
"Oh, nothing." replied Zoycite, sitting down across from
Malachite.
"No, it was something. What was it?"
"Well," began Zoycite, "it's one of my favorite songs, but
you've never heard of it. It's called "We Kiss in a Shadow."
"Would you sing it for me."
"I guess, but I will warn you, my voice isn't that good."
Zoycite said, trying to stall for time.
"I don't mind."
Zoycite cleared her throat and began to sing:
"We kiss in a shadow, we hide from the moon.
Our meetings are few and over too soon.
We speak in a whisper, afraid to be heard.
When people are near we speak not a word.
Alone with our secret, together we strive,
For one smiling day to be free!
To kiss in the sunlight, and say to the sky,
'Behold and believe what you see,
Behold how my lover loves me'."
Malachite and Zoycite sat in silence once she had finished
her song. After about three minutes, Malachite broke the silence.
"Zoycite...I don't know what to say. That song is absolutely
beautiful. And I don't care what you say, you have a beautiful voice."
said an awed Malachite.
"Thanks." replied Zoycite, who was beginning to blush from
the praise Malachite was giving her.
They once again fell into silence. Zoycite noticed that
Malachite seemed to be deep in thought.
"Mal?" she asked, but recieved no reply. "Malachite, what
are you thinking about?"
"The song." answered Malachite. "I was thinking how it
applied to our love."
"Oh? How so?"
"Well, we live in darkness and shadow. When we are alone
together, we must be quiet so no one will find out about us..."
Malachite trailed off, and Zoycite picked up where he left off.
"Especially Beryl and Nephrite. Our love must remain a
secret."
"And someday we long to be free of this place." Malachite
said wistfully.
"You do?"
"Yes. I don't want to be controled by anyone, especially
Beryl. Zoycite, you taught me to understand love for the first time
in my life. There is no love among the evil beings in the NegaVerse.
There is nothing but lies and betrayal. Beryl and Nephrite are
ruthless creatures out for no one but themselves, and that's the
what I thought was correct. I am so thankful that Nephrite found
you and brought you here. Otherwise, I would be the same as all the
rest. All I want is a place where I can be free to show my
emotions." Malachite said as he conjured another rose for Zoycite.
"I never thought I'd say this, but I love you Zoycite."
Zoycite took the rose from Malachite. She looked at it for
a minute, then shifted her gaze up towards Malachite.
"And I love you Malachite." Zoycite said just before the
two shared another passionate kiss.
