Why I thought of Setsuna, I'm not sure. In fact, I'm not sure about the poem at all. More than usual. But what the hey.

"Guardian's Soliloquy"

(Who am I?)

It's lonely, here at the end of the world

As each blackened wind whispers death in my ear

My eyes have grown cold through the ages

(or yet

are they only too tired to cry?)

(I don't know.)

This staff grows heavier, each passing day

Though the days start to blur

where all Times are one.

This manacle binding me, keeps me apart

from what I would like

(in a life).

(I can't be.)

Do I have a friend?

I cannot be sure. Each mortal, each life, would cause me to cry.

(Or once.)

Now only, if I cannot care

I can stand, as I do, at this Gate

and watch

as I must,

through all Time--

(as is every second)

at the end of the world.
